Bank Holidays Change the Shape of the Weekend

Bank holiday clubbing in London is not just a normal Saturday with a day off attached. When the bank holiday falls on a Monday, the whole weekend shifts: Sunday night becomes a proper night out, guestlists and tables go earlier, and getting home needs more thought because the Night Tube does not run that night.

The pattern is the same every time. The people who plan around the right night have a brilliant weekend; the people who treat it like any other Saturday spend half of it in a queue. Here are the next dates, which night of each weekend carries the energy, and how to get the logistics right.

The Next London Bank Holidays

These are the bank holidays for England and Wales as published on GOV.UK, with the night that usually matters most for going out.

Bank holiday Date The big night
Christmas Day Friday 25 December 2026 Earlier in the week; see below
Boxing Day (substitute day) Monday 28 December 2026 Sunday 27 December
New Year's Day Friday 1 January 2027 New Year's Eve, Thursday 31 December
Good Friday Friday 26 March 2027 Thursday 25 March
Easter Monday Monday 29 March 2027 Sunday 28 March
Early May bank holiday Monday 3 May 2027 Sunday 2 May
Spring bank holiday Monday 31 May 2027 Sunday 30 May
Summer bank holiday Monday 30 August 2027 Sunday 29 August

The festive run is unusual. Boxing Day 2026 falls on a Saturday, so the bank holiday moves to Monday 28 December, which makes Sunday 27 December the extra night out. We cover that weekend in detail in our Boxing Day night out guide, and the last Friday before Christmas has its own guide too: Mad Friday in London. New Year's Day is a Friday, so New Year's Eve is a Thursday this time.

Easter 2027 has a quirk worth knowing. The clocks go forward at 1am on Sunday 28 March 2027 (GOV.UK), the same night as Easter Saturday, so the Saturday night is an hour shorter than it looks. Sunday 28 March, the night before Easter Monday, is the one that keeps its full length.

Do People Go Out on a Bank Holiday Monday?

Yes, but mostly on the Sunday night before it. With Monday off, Sunday night behaves like a Saturday, and it is one of the few times a Sunday night in London genuinely rivals the rest of the weekend. The Monday night itself is quieter: most people are back at work on Tuesday, so it suits a dinner or an early night rather than a big club night.

That matters for planning because only some venues open on a normal Sunday. As of October 2026, from our venue listings, Tape, Selene (11pm to 4am, Thursday to Sunday), Dear Darling and Mistress of Mayfair are open on Sundays, and Cirque le Soir opens on Mondays and finishes at 3:45am as on any other night. Other venues sometimes add a Sunday on a bank holiday weekend; we confirm which ones are open early in the week, because it changes from one weekend to the next.

What Changes on the Night

Doors fill earlier. A Sunday that would normally be quiet is full of people who have the next day off, so venues reach capacity sooner than on a standard Sunday. Plan to arrive before 11pm.

Guestlists close sooner. Lists for bank holiday weekends fill earlier than usual. Get your names in by midweek rather than on the day; our guestlist page explains how it works.

Tables go first. Tables at the busiest venues are often taken days ahead on a bank holiday weekend. Minimum spends depend on the venue and the night, so we confirm the exact figure when you enquire rather than quote a guess.

Hours depend on the licence. A club can only stay open later than usual if its licence allows it. One route for a one-off night is a Temporary Event Notice, which has to be sent to the police and environmental health at least 10 working days before the event (GOV.UK). So later closing is something a venue plans and announces, not something to assume.

Getting Home After a Bank Holiday Sunday

This is the part most people get wrong. The Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights only (Time Out), so on the Sunday of a bank holiday weekend there is no all-night Tube unless TfL announces extra services. Plan on night buses, a pre-booked cab or staying central, and expect ride-hailing prices to surge after 3am. Our guide to getting home from London clubs covers the options in full.

A Bank Holiday Checklist

  1. Pick the right night: for a Monday bank holiday, the Sunday is the main event.
  2. Check who is open: Sunday openings vary, so confirm before you plan the night around one venue.
  3. Get on a guestlist by midweek: lists close earlier on these weekends.
  4. Arrive before 11pm: queues build early on the extra night. Our entry guide covers how to time it.
  5. Know the door policy: standards stay high on big nights; our clothing guide helps you play it safe.
  6. Sort the trip home first: no Night Tube on a Sunday means the plan for 3am matters.
