The lowdown

About Rumour

Rumour (formerly Tabu) is the booth club at 1 Dover Street in Mayfair, open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11pm to 4am. The Tabu name has gone: same ownership, full rebrand, new design and a new concept. Dover Street sits between Piccadilly and Grafton Street, a few minutes from Green Park station, with Piccadilly Circus and Bond Street walkable.

It is one intimate room of around 200 people, built around booths: deep red velvet, dark panelling, a chandelier and low warm lighting. The room fills early by design, so arrive in good time. The music is open format, hip hop, RnB and house, read to the room on the night rather than fixed to one genre.

Rumour runs a no-photography policy: no photos or video in the main room or on the dance floor, and the floor team enforce it. That is the single clearest difference from the rooms around it.

Entry works two ways. There is a ladies' guestlist, free to £20 on the door depending on the night and how busy it is; men are not added to the guestlist. For men and mixed groups the route in is a booth, from £1,000 minimum spend, which covers entry for the whole group. Across eight people that is roughly £125 each, spent on drinks. The dress code is smart and dressed up: heels for ladies, a considered look for men, no sportswear, no fancy dress, trainers at the door's discretion. Entry is 18+ with photo ID.

Wednesday and Thursday are the more relaxed nights and the easiest for guestlist entry. Friday and Saturday fill out, so a booth is worth arranging in advance. The venue presents itself as a members' club; we book tables and guestlist for non-members, and the 200-capacity room suits private hire and corporate takeovers, with terms on request. 99 Regent Street, Tape London and Maddox are all a short walk if you want a second room.

A short walk away: 99 Regent Street, Tape London, Maddox and Dear Darling Mayfair.

Insider Tip

“Phones stay in pockets on the dance floor: the floor team enforce the no-photography rule. Wednesday and Thursday are the easiest nights for the ladies' guestlist; for a Friday or Saturday booth, book ahead because the room fills early by design.”
